Keep Calm and Survive Band Camp

After 17 hours of teaching color guard this week my brain has turned to mush and I am really sore. But that's ok because I have 60 hours of color guard next week. No big deal.
So how do you prepare for 60 hours of color guard?
Better yet, how do you prepare for band camp?
-go to bed before midnight at least 3 days before band camp starts
-drink at least a gallon of water a day
-eat healthy
-STRETCH!
-run everyday (this seems silly but it helps get your muscles prepared for what is to come)
-do push ups
-make sure to do laundry the day before band camp starts
-buy new socks
-make sure your tennis shoes will hold up during a week of marching
-pack your bag for the week
-label your water bottle
-buy a chapstick with SPF in it
-memorize your music/guard work
-make sure your outfits are made of breathable and moveable fabrics
-pump yourself up by watching some drum corps shows

Band Camp can be an awesome experience, if done right. Don't be afraid to meet new people and break out of your comfort zone. Always be on time. If you have a question, ask it!
Respect your director and instructors. And most important, always wear deodorant!
