Spring can only get better...

My body decided to welcome Spring by having a bonfire... in my throat. This past weekend was spent either in my bed or on the couch. My immune system is normally as strong as Paul Bunyan and his blue ox. I guess it decided to take a day off. I am the worst sick patient. I am stubborn, pathetic, and just not a happy person. Luckily my dog, Duncan decided that I was tolerable and kept me company while I binged my way through 6 episodes of Unique Sweets on the Cooking Channel. [amazing show!!!]
"Feed a cold, starve a fever." How does the saying go?  For some reason I thought it would be a good idea to try and sweat out the fever. Dumb idea. I went to the gym for 45 minutes for a sad attempt to sweat out some toxins. I looked pathetic. It made me feel worse and did not work.
^ emergen-c, nyquil knockoff, and EOS tangerine = best friends ^
^ along with every other person in the world, I also watched Frozen over the weekend. I also would like to add that 'Let it Go' has been played 68 times according to my itunes library. [no shame] ^

Surrender... to bread & cheese.

For the past 6 months I have been adapting to a new lifestyle of gluten free and dairy free eating hoping to solve a few health concerns. It has been quite a journey. I have learned a lot about food and how it effects my body. I also realized how much cheese I was actually eating once I had to give it up. [quesadilla a day keeps the doctor away. wait that's not how it goes...] Going out to eat has been tricky, I never wanted to be "that girl" who had to ask for her food to be prepared in such a specific way. I found however, that a lot of restaurants have allergy information for you that makes it easier to order. Qdoba and Red Robin are great options for eating out. Also any Mexican restaurant is easy to change your meal to gluten/dairy free.
[corn tortillas and no cheese].
If someone would've told me a year ago that I would be living life without bread, cheese, and froyo I would've just laughed and said, "Ya, right!" This journey hasn't been easy but I think it caught me in the right moment of my life. A moment to be able to surrender and change. Have there been moments of frustration? Yes! Have there been tears? Yes! However, all the health concerns that I had 6 months ago are no longer an issue. [It doesn't mean my craving for cheese has completely gone away though.]

Small Changes Make a Big Difference

So after being immobilized (for the most part) for almost 2 weeks, my body can definitely feel it. I haven't weighed myself but I know I have put on a pound (or two). When all you're doing is nothing, that is bound to happen. Especially when it's summertime and froyo turns into a daily treat.
I went to bed last night feeling swollen, kinda sad, and with some serious skin issues. I know the fact that I haven't had a good sweat from a cardio session in 2 weeks has something to do with that. Also I have neglected to really focus on my nutrition.
So I decided that last night I was going to do something about it. I checked my instagram before bed and noticed that ShayCarl was starting ShayLoss again. He is starting a #5weekchallenge
This is just the motivation that I needed.
I am turning 26 in a week and I don't want to start my 26th year of life feeling swollen.
Today is the day! I got a good sweat in by doing what I could given my surgery limitations. Which goes to show you how much you can do even with restrictions.
I went to my pinterest page and found things on my fitspiration board that I could do. 45 minutes later I was sweating, panting, and feeling good. (good=sore)
Here's what I picked.
Here's to being happier and healthier in 5 weeks!
