#FatRapids2014

It is always fun to tag along with my brother to his longboard races. Today was the 2nd annual Fat Rapids River Rush race in Big Rapids. [here's the post from last year]  Scotty B put together another great race. When we woke up to leave it was pouring rain and the weather did not look too promising but we loaded up the car out of faith. The rain held out for us and it was a great day! Nate came in a respectable 9th place. He was also interviewing riders along the trail to catch all the action. I got a tshirt for helping out with race times and placement and Nate picked up some new pucks for sliding. There were so many great moments out of the day.
Top 2 would be...
#1 being asked if my brother and I are twins
#2 watching Mike Dallas ride down a hill with a milkshake.
What a fun brother/sister day. [p.s. My brother and I are not twins.
I am 4 years older than him.]
Enjoy some great shots from the day!
^ Men's Podium ^
^ Women's Podium- I love seeing girls racing at these events! Get it ladies! ^
^ Slide Jam time! [my bro is the one in the red helmet] ^
^ Great skate event! Can't wait until next year! ^

Fat Rapids

So if you haven't realized it already, I really like bragging on my brother and his sweet longboarding skills. (read this or this.) This past weekend was another race weekend.
My brother and I like to travel in pairs, kinda like the Duggar's except we are the only pair of siblings in our family.
Off to Big Rapids we went for the Fat Rapids River Rush. It was cold, colder than I expected, and rainy towards the end. Nate came in fourth and choose some sliding gloves from the swag table. I got a t-shirt, like I do at most races. I never leave a race empty handed.
The race was small and well organized. I love an organized race that starts on time!
The whole day was dope! Brother/Sister days are pretty much the best, especially when there is free swag involved.

For Gnarnia!

Over the weekend my family crammed into our new Subaru Outback at 3am to drive 6 hours to Columbus, Ohio. My brother had his first long distance push race of the longboarding season, the Gnarnia Marathon. I was voted to be the navigator on this trip therefore, I was not allowed to sleep. With 4 iced coffees in my system, I was good to go. The drive there was long but that was to be expected. Once we got thru all the corn fields and into the city of Columbus, it was gorgeous.
The weather was beautiful and perfect for a 15 mile race.
After being awake for 24 hours and stuck in a small car for 4 hours... this is what can happen.
Two racers were representing Michigan riders. Nate (left) and Jared (right).
Both amazing riders!
One of my favorite moments was when some dood came up to me and said, "Hey, is that the guy that works at a coffee shop? I saw him on youtube!" HILARIOUS!
Nate WON! He finished in just over an hour. No one expected anyone to finish that fast so there was no one waiting at the finish line except for our family and a couple other parents.
People's minds were blown!

Bustin or Bust!

On Sunday I was preparing for my after church nap when my brother facebook messaged me from the other room.

Learn to ride the longboard that I have had sitting in the garage since last fall? Sure!
I had attempted to get on it while I was home alone and it was not the most graceful sight. I also had my feet all wrong and my board backwards.
Such a newb!
After getting some pointers and encouragement from my brother I was up and cruising in no time.
2 hours later I still had not fallen and was going down some little hills.
I am proud of myself for doing something that I was afraid of trying. I hate falling, getting hurt, and being on moving objects without a rail or hand to hold. Overcoming fears is something that everyone should be working on. Start small.
Like cruising on a longboard, you gotta go slow and steady at first. Then a moment kicks in where you say, "I got this!" That moment is normally followed by a happy dance. :)
My brother is an amazing longboard who rides for Sweet Spot Wheels, Rayne Longboards, and Rey Trucks.
